How Package Consolidation Savings Are Calculated
The calculator first determines the chargeable weight of each parcel by comparing its actual and volumetric weight. The higher figure is normally used.
Metric volumetric-weight formula
Length × Width × Height (cm) ÷ 5,000
Imperial volumetric-weight formula
Length × Width × Height (in) ÷ 139
The separate chargeable weights are added together and compared with the chargeable weight of the estimated consolidated package.
Package Consolidation Example
Suppose three parcels have a combined separate chargeable weight of 9.5 kg. After removing oversized boxes and combining the products, the consolidated parcel has a chargeable weight of 5 kg.
The estimated reduction would be:
- Chargeable weight saved: 4.5 kg
- 500-gram increments saved: 9
- Estimated reduction: 47.4%

How Consolidation Can Reduce Shipping Costs
Shipping parcels separately can mean paying repeated minimum charges and transporting unnecessary outer packaging. Package consolidation may reduce costs by:
